Sunday - June 27

My brother thought of the name. Anyway, how should Christians and the church be involved in community?

I've been thinking about this too! I think we need two communities, or better yet have Christians integrated in your life in the world. Because there are some things that only Christians can connect over, and understand, because of the Holy Spirit, we need to meet with other believers. (and the stirring up one another to love and good deeds deal) But I really don't think that can be all. I want to share life with people outside of just the body of Christ.

It troubles me that I have so few non-Christian friends, but I'm sure my mom's glad that the people who are close to me ARE Christians and DO have that positive spiritual influence over me. And on another level, I know I can have the deepest community with my Christian friends because our souls understand each other on a level non-Christian friends can't meet. But in the face of all that is wonderful about Christian community, the fact remains that community with non-believers is important, too. Jesus ate with hookers and tax collectors, and like you said, we are called into the world to be salt and light.

I think, sometimes, not everywhere and not all the time, but occasionally, Christians pat themselves on the back for what they have, without realizing that the very heart of the gospel is to share. We pride ourselves on our awesome Christian communities while not minding the reality that everyone longs for community, and what better way to show the lost Jesus's love than through fellowship and love? Community with Christians is important, but perhaps overrated to exclusion of secular community.

What would be wonderful/ideal is if our Christian community was integrated into secular venues.

This is a topic I'm slowly becoming passionate about, awesome awesome question! [And thanks again. :D]
